General Meeting Minutes 9/1/10

First Meeting!

· Introductions w/ cookies

· Astronomy club is about enjoying astronomy and spreading astronomy knowledge.

· Lots of projects

o Local astronomical phenomena (model project)

§ Large model in lobby of steward

o Small binocular telescope (open project)

§ Purchases two 10 inch mirrors so far

§ Funding is still in progress

§ Contact Blythe if interested in working on this

o Extrasolar planet project

§ Gathered data from TrES-3b and TrEs-4b

§ Data reduction start this semester

§ Contact Jake Turner if interested in working on this

o Scrapbooking

§ Create a physical collection of photos

· Contact Carmen if you have any photos

· Outreach

o Sabino canyon outreach

§ There is one every Saturday

§ First one this Saturday contact Kevin ASAP if you want to go!

o San Manuel/Mammoth Elementary astronomy club collaboration.

o Biosphere 2 astronomy demonstration on a few Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm

§ Free tours!

· Astronomy question of the week

o Question of the week

· Star Parties

o BBQ, telescopes, a lot of fun and time to get to know each other.

o First star party: September 10^th at Saguaro National Park West

§ Food + transport will be provided

· Sky Center, Flandrau, TAAA

o Discover days, sky nights, star parties, general science education

o If you want to volunteer at Flandrau, sign up at http://observatorycrew.org/volunteerinquiry.htm

o First TAAA meeting on Friday in Steward N210 from 6:30 to 9 pm

· Club shirts

o ASUA funded?

o Design shown next week

o No more than $5 if funding goes through.

· Dues

o $10 per semester, $20 for both
