  • We need someone to update the What's Up board in the Steward hallway
  • Next week we will have guest speaker Al Grauer
  • In two weeks we will have another guest speaker
  • We will have no Extrasolar Planet Project meeting this weekend since we do not have computer accounts set up yet and we are waiting for new hard drives for the server to come in
  • We had Dr. Don McCarthy give a very nice presentation about the International Year of Astronomy and recent findings about things discovered by Galileo

Meeting Minutes

  • We have the opportunity to work with a 4th grade Astronomy Club in Texas via webcam once or twice a month. More details will be posted soon.
  • We will be meeting to work on the Extrasolar Planet Project on Saturday, September 19th at 10am in Steward Observatory room 208. If you do not have access to the building, please call Kevin at (208) 440-4650.
  • Next week our adviser, Dr. John Bieging will be making an appearance at our meeting to introduce himself.
  • We will try to work on our Local Group Project sometime soon. Dustin has a new idea for an easy structure that we can build.
  • Please remember to pay dues.
  • If you are available on Monday, September 28th to go to the Cooper Center, we will be volunteering to show 4th grade students the night sky. Please email Kevin if you're interested.

Meeting Minutes and Other Information

At today's meeting we discussed:
  • Star Party - Friday, September 11th
    • Location: Catalina State Park
    • Meet: Steward Observatory/Psychology parking lot
    • Bring: Items for a potluck barbeque, and possibly a light jacket
      • People who have already signed up to bring something:

        • Carmen - Napkins and Apples
        • Collin - Chips
        • Ellen - Chips
        • John - S'mores
        • Katie - Cups and Paper Plates and Couscous
        • Kevin - Burgers and Buns and Cheese

      • Please let Kevin know if you want to go to the Star Party, if you are able to drive, and what barbeque item you are bringing. (We still need Charcoal, Lighter Fluid, S'mores, etc...)
    • If the weather is Star Party unfriendly, we will just have a movie night/potluck in Steward Observatory
  • Dues - Remember to pay dues ($15) for this semester. This can be paid to any of the officers. Money from dues goes toward Astronomy Club projects and trips.
  • ASUA Funding Proposal - If you would like to help out in writing a proposal to ASUA for funding for our Binocular Telescope Project, please meet up in the Steward Observatory computer lab (208) at 4pm on Wednesday, September 9th.

  • We will start reducing data for our Extrasolar Planet Project on the weekend of September 19th. If you do not have a computer account for the Steward Observatory computer lab and would like to work on this project, please let Kevin know asap.
  • Members Page - If you marked on your membership form that you would like to have your own personal page on the club website, you will get an email granting you access to edit a blog using Blogger. Your page is accessible to anyone from our members page.
