Astronomy Club Meeting – Monday Jan 31, 2011

Recap:
  • Last Saturday astronomy club attended Globe At Night, Dark Sky Awareness
    • Huge success, thanks for all in attendance.
Upcoming Events:

Saturday, Feb 5:
  • Come volunteer at Biosphere 2’s Science Saturdays program. We will have solar telescopes and other fun demos. Volunteers also get a free tour of Biosphere 2.
  • Sabino Canyon star party (Sabino canyon parking lot)
Monday, Feb 7:
  • University High School Star Party. We are going to help assemble their Astronomy Club’s telescope(s) and explain how they work. Event goes from 3-5, contact Kevin for more info.
Friday, Feb 11:
  • University High Star party, more info next Astronomy Club meeting.
Current Projects:
  • Extrasolar project, meets Thursdays at 6:15 in the Steward computer lab.

    • Binocular Telescope project, email Blythe if interested (bguvenen@email.arizona.edu)
  • Local Astronomical Phenomena (i.e. constructing the large scale astronomy models in the Steward lobby), contact Katie is interested (kljpyro@email.arizona.edu)

Other Announcements:
  • Astronomy Club office is located in the trailers north of Steward Observatory – Good wi-fi and a great place to hang out or do homework! Office No. T104 – 105.
  • Astronomy Question of the Week is posted on the astronomy club website and will be answered on Fridays at 4 pm in N305 by Dr. McCarthy.
  • Astronomy colloquium is every Thursday from 4-5.
  • Membership dues are $10 and due ASAP. Dues can be turned into Blythe at weekly club meetings.
